4-5 February Loggings from Dunlo, PA, USA

Post by Dave Valko »

6305 R. TRX Found good signal w/mx here at 2327. Playing oldies and Blues songs this evening. Seems to have a pretty good mx collection. Multiple canned IDs at 2348. Faded since t/in. Finally stopped the mx and went off at 0030:28. Fairly good of course. Heard at home. (4 Feb.)

5 February 2012: Conditions seemed a little better than last weekend when I awoke, but it was just as bad at the SGLs, and actually got worse. The Solar Flux was the lowest its been in quite a few months. I was horrified to find new UTEs on 6302, 6302.5 to 6305.5 and 6209.5 to 6214.5. The usual UTEs were also on 6295 to 6296, 6289 to 6290, and 6271.5 to 6276.5. So the amount of clear freqs is really getting cut down. There was also a carrier on 6323 which was there the previous evening. Activity was really low this morning. No sign of R. Shadow, or even Orion R. Wonder if there were more raids. It was plainly evident conditions weren’t going to improve by 0900, so I left.

RX: Microtelecom Perseus SDR with ARR preamp.
ANT: 315' Beverage (BOG) at 50°.
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 0655-0900 UTC
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 106 A Index = 6 K Index = 1 No storms. B1 X-Ray Flux. 6
mhz MUF between UK and Iceland. Not as large an area as last week.
WX: Cloudy, although the Moon did come out briefly. Temp around 30.

4015 LHH 0657 Unreadable M anncr at t/in, then into Pop song. 0702 song anmnts and more Pop/Dance mx. Couldn't recognize any songs. Getting some UTE QRM from 1.5 khz above. (5 Feb.)

5799.73 R. Polaris Signal came on initially on 5804.71 at 0755:53, then moved down to 5800 at 0759:35. Then BBC DRM came on at ToH. May have had some audio at 0806, and certainly sounded like mx at 0809. Moved up to 5799.84 at 0822:27 then back down to 5799.71 at 0824:00. Jumped back up again later. The signal was still there when I quit at 0900. Really faded down after 0815. Might have had a chance if he'd have stayed on 5805. (5 Feb.)

5820 Orion R. NOT (5 Feb.)

6150 No sign of R. 6150, but then again there was no annmnt that he would be on. Just the ZY here at 0737. (5 Feb.)

6200.04 R. Orang Utan Usual variety of mx. "I Can Help" by Billy Swan at 0724. SSB QRM at 0727. Weak and no better than last weekend. Some peaks at 0736. Anmnt at 0741:40. Caught ment of Orang Utan and good morning. Anmnt 0800:25. Did hear another ID. Offending signal that was near here just minutes before was gone at 0719. (5 Feb.)

6205 OC here again at home and at the SGLs. (5 Feb.)

6219.06 Bluestar R. Came on the air at 0730:44, then mx started w/song already in progress at 0731:48. Canned ID at 0735:40. ID anmnt at 0748:50 w/morning greeting, freq, SMS# 003165559?51?, and acknowledged a few listeners. EG and DT. Amazingly strong at 0757. "Knock on Wood" by Amii Stewart at 0802. Long voice-over anmnts 0808:05 to 0811:35. Really dropped down by this time. 0827 "Please Release Me", Englebert Humperdinct. 0829:25 ID jingles. 0832 canned mailing anmnt. Barely getting audio by 0855. (5 Feb.)

6295 R. Wittereus Apparently the one here popping on 6294.86 at 0849:34, and immediately moved up to 6295.04 and back down to 6295 all within a matter of 5 seconds. Of course it was extremely weak and hammered by the UTE, so absolutely no chance. (5 Feb.)

6305.94 R. Brandaris Signal on at 0835:49. Definitely mx at 0636 when the UTE was off for a short time. But when the UTE was on, it was severely QRMed. And the UTE did stay on after 0837. Would have been able to ID if not for the UTE. Tried USB but the audio just didn't have enough punch. Did drift down just a tad to 6295.90 by 0900. (5 Feb.)

6970 LHH 0717 very weak signal barely audible w/tlk by M. More anmnts noted at 0814 and 0825 but still no better. (5 Feb.)

A disappointing morning with horrible conditions and little activity.
