Radio Nova license granted!

Post by freeradionova »

In the 'Algemeen Dagblad' of today on page 12 there is a big article about Free Radio Nova. Since not every visitor of Alfa Lima is able to read Dutch here some quotes

This afternoon we have just heard from the 'Agentschap Telecom' and the great news is that the shortwave radio license for Free Radio Nova has been granted!

This means the team behind the application now has a maximum of two years to fund and set up the radio studios needed to broadcast legally Free Radio Nova on 3.935 kHz

Free Radio Nova' project Coordinator Frank Carson said, "This is a massive boost to the shortwave community group, and we look forward to being the extra voice. We realise there is now a new list of things to do, and the work will be long and hard - but our plan is to start official broadcastings by Summer 2011."

Free Radio Nova upon launching, will broadcast for a total of five years, and openly encourages anyone and everyone with an interest in shortwave broadcasting, to get in touch.

Tony, a Kijkduin resident says, "This radio station is for all the people, and we invite everybody to get involved at whatever level they wish. If you have an interest in presenting a radio programme, then, with a small amount of training, why not come and present your own show?"

We can be contacted through our website.

Thanks for all the emails I received (>100!) regarding the granted license for shortwave broadcasting!

My mailbox this morning almost exploded with messages by people who congratulate me and wanted to participate in the ‘official project’.

I even got messages from people who contacted the Agentschap Telecom, asking for a license as well.

And to take it a step further even other media picked up the story…..!!! :D

But…. Look at the date… April 1st… it was an April-fool-joke!

I could not imagine that the impact was so big, therefore this posting.
So, no official status for Free Radio Nova, we continue to do what we did… unofficial shortwave broadcasting on the 75 mtr and 19 mtr band!

I didn't realize "April Fool" was known outside the UK.

What countries recognize this old custom?

Besides UK and NL..............

Most Commonwealth countries do and the USA does.

Canadian Universities engineering students can get downright creative sometimes
