London Calling.

Post by Andy Richards »

My listening was a little interrupted this weekend by "Christmas jobs"!!

But I caught quite a few stations anyway.

Good solid signal as usual from Skyline on Friday night.

Good to hear Major Tom back on the air with Radio Spaceman, but not as strong a signal as we have come to expect from him. Both Skyline and Delta were stronger here than Spaceman. But a nice programme anyway.

Laser are still pumping out a solid signal on 76m but now moved to 4015.I got a weak signal from them on 6210 today too.

Another huge signal from Orion on 5820.I've logged him as 45434,because that was his signal strength at the time of the log and for most of the broadcast. But he was peaking 55444 a lot of the time.
Saturnus followed him with another solid signal again on 5820,low power I'm guessing,so pretty good.

Tom Taylor does the "Warm up" show on EMR.What a start to the transmission!
He started with "Sister Seagull" from the superb Be Bop Deluxe, then "Let's work Together" from Canned Heat and followed that with Al Stewart's "On the Border"!All great songs with a Pirate feel to them.

Orang Utan is becoming a regular and I like his mix of music and "punchy" modulation.

Bluestar were pretty strong but 6220 was not working that well so he switched to 6175,which was not that much better.

Geronimo's signal came and went,280 watts is a fair bit of power, but I guess most of it was radiating beyond my QTH.

Another interesting show from Devalon.I like the "QSL response time" report he does.

Big signals from Delta and Marconi today,Delta with a long show.

Lastly,Magic AM were good as usual, but with little space left on the band he was on 6375,which suffers a lot of utility interference here.

By far the strongest signal of the day was from Orion. After that Skyline,Laser,Delta,Devalon,Marconi and Spaceman.

As this will probably be my last post before Christmas, can I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and please keep enjoying this amazing hobby we have.I hope you all enjoy whatever break you have over the festive season.

Thanks for the logging Andy. Yes conditions were strange with me too yesterday. Geronimo was S9+20db around 1000UTC but then suffered deep fading and reduced signal strength soon after. The tx operator Chris had heavy snow at his location (as most of us have!) and said that the antenna tends to play up/de-tune when it is very wet. The signal was heard by Terry in Newfoundland and by a listener in Madrid so it was certainly getting out a fair way.

Geronimo will be back on Christmas Day and then again in January. I'll also see you on FRSH on 16th January.
